Public IP Address:

Types of Website IP Address
Share IP addresses and dedicated IP addresses are the two forms of website IP addresses.
Shared IP Address
A shared IP address is an address that has been assigned to many different websites. A shared IP address is often used by small businesses that use a managed WordPress host or a shared hosting service.
Dedicated IP Address
Dedicated IP address is a specific IP address that is allocated to a device or computer. Dedicated IP addresses are used in various scenarios such as virtual private networks (VPNs) and remote access.
Dedicated IP addresses are also used by enterprises, organizations, and individuals to protect their privacy and security.
Getting guaranteed dedicated IP is great if you’re worried about your site’s reputation. Not only do you avoid backlists, but you also don’t need to worry about the website being accessible by just using the domain name.
Internet Protocols Versions
There are two main IP versions are following:
- IPv4 addresses
- IPv6 addresses
IPv4 addresses are a type of Internet Protocol addresses. They are the first four numbers in a 32-bit address. There are 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses, which means that there is just one available address for every person on Earth. The IPv4 address is the most basic level of an Internet Protocol address.
IPv6 is the next generation of IP addressing. IPv4 is currently still the most commonly used network protocol on the internet.
IPv6 enables more addresses than there are atoms in the universe. The number of available addresses increases exponentially with each new technology that supports IPv6 – introducing 1 billion addresses every 10 minutes. In comparison, IPv4 has a total addressable space of only 3403 trillion (3.43 x 1019)
There are more than 4 billion networked devices connected to the Internet today and this number is expected to grow significantly with high-speed networks becoming a reality in our lifetime. This means that there will be an exponential increase in both traffic and demand for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) addressing over time, which creates significant challenges for service providers managing their networks.
Classification of IP Address Based on Operational Characteristics:
Unicast of IP Addresses
Unicast IP addressing is a term used to refer to a specific type of IP addressing in which the host address (IP address) is assigned by the same organization that owns the network.
One example of this would be an academic institution with thousands of individual devices connected to their network, like MIT for example. They might have dedicated devices for each department, and their network might have a single MAC address assigned by IT. This presents some problems because if one device goes down within the network, that device will no longer be able to communicate on that particular segment.
There are different strategies for solving this issue but one strategy is the use of Unicast IP addressing.
Broadcast of IP Addresses
Broadcast IP addressing is a process of delivering packets to every device on the network without knowledge of the network topology or which client is receiving the packets.
Broadcast IP address is used for exchanging traffic between two networks, such as a local area network and a wide area network or between two routers. Broadcast addresses are not routable in networks.
Broadcast IP addressing can be done with routers that support IPv4, IPv6, or with Layer 2 switches that support MAC address learning and port-based learning. In broadcast-only mode, all devices on the local area network receive all traffic intended for the wide area.

Multicast IP addresses
There are multiple uses for multicast IP addresses. They can be used for efficient group video conferencing, streaming videos, and providing a single point to reach many users.
A multicast IP address can also be used as a separate network from the main one. This makes it possible for the network administrators to have one set of rules for all devices connected to that network and easy to manage group settings like quality, bandwidth, and other features.
Anycast of IP Addresses
An anycast address is an address that is allotted to a set of routers so that all packets for the same destination have the same routing path. When sending a packet, it is delivered to the closest router that has this route creating a consistent connection quality and fast routing speed.
IP Addresses Structure
IP addresses are made up of the
Network ID (X1. X2. X3) and the
Host ID (X4).
Both of these portions can uniquely identify a device on a network, either personal or commercial, which helps identify its location.
